Central Region dominated karate and wushu in the first National School Games (Junior Championship) winning all gold medals that were decided today. Nirakar Man Pradhan won the boys’ individual kata and Shanta Shrestha took gold in the girls’ category. Central karatekas also took silver in the event. Nirakar cruised to his second gold winning 42kg final defeating Krishna Thagulla of Far-western Region. Prabin Lama won boys’ 37kg gold and Karuna Shrestha won the girls’ 35kg section. Central also clean swept wushu. In chan quan, Bijay Lama and Sushmita Tamang took gold medals respectively, while Dorje Lama and Manjari Maharjan won the nan quan finals. Anon Kulung and Karuna Maharjan won taiji quan with Bijay Sinjali winning tau su and Anju Gole claiming qian su gold medals. In the boys’ basketball, Central got off to a triumphant start with a 32-28 victory over Western. Santosh Budha of Central won the boys’ bagchal gold. Spikers marked a successful day for Central with the boys’ team beating Eastern 25-19, 25-16, 25-13 and Western 25-15, 25-13, 25-20 to book a place in the final.
