Diploma in Midwifery BRAC University is leading a 3-year Diploma in Midwifery program in partnership with six non-governmental Implementing Partner Organizations (IPOs) in Cox’s Bazar, Dhaka, Dinajpur, Khulna, Mymensingh and Sylhet. The program is designed to recruit students from remote and underserved areas with high maternal and newborn health needs, build their capacity through a 3-year Diploma in Midwifery program and deploy midwives in their respective communities upon graduation BRAC University, in collaboration with six other Implementing Partner Organizations, is currently accepting applications to the second batch of the 3-year Diploma in Midwifery program. Features of the Diploma in Midwifery Program 155-credit, full-time, 36-month residential program based in communities with the greatest maternal and newborn health needs Emphasizing development of International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) competencies Experienced and academically diverse faculty trained by Jhpiego and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine International standard curriculum balanced through 40% theory hours and 60% lab and clinical hours Students gain practical experience through 1-year Supervised Internship in the final (third) year Accreditation and Registration by the Bangladesh Nursing Council (BNC) Diploma in Midwifery degree awarded by BRAC University Admission Requirements Must be a female resident of a selected underserved area with high maternal and newborn health needs (see the lists of areas below) Must have completed at least either 12 years of education (HSC level or equivalent) with at least a 2.5 CGPA Candidates with 10 years of education (SSC level or equivalent) with at least a 2.5 CGPA and relevant experience in health care may apply (TBAs, CSBAs and FWVs are strongly encouraged to apply though previous relevant experience is not necessary for candidates with 12 years of education). Must be highly motivated to pursue a career in midwifery Must be committed to serve her community for at least five years as a midwife upon successful completion of the 3-year Diploma in Midwifery program Must stay in the hostel throughout the academic year (except during semester breaks and national holidays) Post-graduate Certificate Course on Management of Land Acquisition, Resettlement and Rehabilitation (MLARR) BRAC Development Institute (BDI) offers an intensive 14 weeks long postgraduate certificate course on Management of Land Acquisition, Resettlement and Rehabilitation (MLARR). There are a total of 12 modules in the certificate course. This course is primarily targeted towards professionals who are working in land acquisition or wish to deepen their understanding and gain specialization in this sector. It is also open to students interested in gaining greater knowledge of issues of acquisition and involuntary resettlement. At the end of this course, students will be awarded a “Certificate in Management of Land Acquisition and Resettlement and Rehabilitation” – the first of its kind in Bangladesh. The overall objective of the certificate course is to produce a group of highly skilled development practitioners in the specific field of land management that deals with land acquisition and resettlement actions and plans. Admission Requirements A Bachelor’s (Honors) degree in any discipline with at least a second Class/Division (or CGPA 2.5 or above) A candidate who has a Bachelor degree (Pass course) is also eligible to apply provided that s/he has done a postgraduate diploma course and have at least 06 (six) years of job experience. Program Features MLARR students upon completion of the course will have in depth knowledge in areas of land management, national laws and international policies, social and environmental impact assessments and tools and techniques in effectively building and managing a resettlement plan. The students will be able to identify and minimize the risks associated with land acquisition and resettlement. They will also have the ability to identify the different approaches that are available to practitioners in establishing and ensuring equitable and sustainable livelihood restoration for project affected people. Normally applications for admission are invited in the middle of the month of November each year.
