Chains. They are cold, hard, heavy, restrictive and unforgiving. - TopicsExpress

Chains. They are cold, hard, heavy, restrictive and unforgiving. When wrapped in chains we may find it difficult, or even impossible to move. They trip us up causing us to fall. As we struggle, our sweat covers the chains the sweat picks up the dirt and dust as we wrestle against them. Instead of our own struggles loosening the chains around us, they bind the chains tighter. They press against our flesh and as we move. The friction of the chain links begin to tear at our flesh. The sweat and blood begin to mix. As they do, the saltiness of our own sweat burn at our exposed muscle and soft tissue, and the blood and sweat pick up more dirt from our environment. The grit from the dirt fill the exposed wounds and grind against the exposed and vulnerable tissue. We continue to writhe in escalating waves of pain and frustration until we collapse in exhaustion, and defeat. Now let’s take another look at chains. When you pick up a chain in your hand, what does it do? It hangs from your hands. It presses into your flesh and weighs you down. Attatch a chain to a couple posts on opposite sides of the road, call it a gate, and it stops your journey. Have chains called cuffs placed on your wrists and ankles, and suddenly you are captive. Chains have to have something to cling to. Your personal chains of bondage are clinging to the flesh in your life. Your addictions, dependencies, habits, and selfish ways. As you continue to juggle the traps of the flesh tighten. They trip you up, they cut deep, and leave you defeated. What happens when you open your hand that holds the chain? It falls to the ground releasing its pressure and its weight. What happens when the gate is opened? The chain falls and you drive on. What happens when the cuffs are unlocked? The chains fall and you walk away. Now apply this to your personal chains of bondage. They are only there because of our unhealthy fleshly ways. When we die to the flesh, when we give up our selfish ways, as we truly exist in the Spirit, instead of the flesh, then the chains no longer have anything to cling to, and they must fall. That chain from your hand will fall and you shall rise. The gate will open and you will advance, the shackles (cuffs) will fall and you shall be free!
