Chairmans Press Statement on Karachi after the arrest of Altaf - TopicsExpress

Chairmans Press Statement on Karachi after the arrest of Altaf Hussain Chairman PTI, Imran Khan, today expressed concern over the situation prevailing in Karachi and other parts of Sindh after the arrest of MQM Chief Altaf Hussain by the British authorities. Khan said he fully understood the anguish of the MQM workers at this difficult time but he asserted that it was absolutely unjustified for the MQM to bring Karachi to a standstill and disrupt the lives of the people of this metropolis and financial centre of the country, when it is the British authorities who have taken legal action against a British citizen on charges of money laundering. Chairman PTI said rule of law will now take its course in the UK and MQM leaders and workers need to show patience and not punish the people of Pakistan for actions taken by the British government. PTI Chairman also condemned the violence and burning of vehicles yesterday by angry MQM workers and expressed concern over the fear that has spread amongst the innocent citizens and businesses of Karachi which has brought the city to a standstill. With petrol stations also closed no citizen can move even in a case of an emergency. Khan said while there are claims by MQM that this standstill of life in Karachi is voluntary everyone knows that the reality on the ground is different. This is unacceptable blackmail of a whole city for action taken by the British government against one of their own citizen. Imran Khan also expressed surprise at the PPP, which as the party governing Sindh should have been ensuring safety of the citizens of Karachi and ensuring that their lives and the businesses of the city are not brought to a standstill, but is instead joining the MQM protest. This is making a mockery of governance. The Chairman PTI said if protest has to be held against the arrest of MQM leader by the British government then it should be in the UK and not in Pakistan.
