Chamber Post: Rest In Peace: John Richard Mulcahy, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2014. He was a resident of Far Hills, New Jersey. He was an award winning homebuilder and the past President of Mulcahy Realty and Construction Company, a family residential building business founded in 1887. John graduated from Villanova University in 1960. During his time as President of Mulcahy Realty, John built custom homes across central New Jersey - serving as the President of the Home Builders Association of Central New Jersey in 1972 and received the Builder of the Year Award by the New Jersey Home Builders Association in 1986 and the New Jersey Home Builders Association Award of Excellence in the single family home category in 1985 and 1991. John was dedicated to serving his community. For thirty-two years, from 1981 - 2013, John served on the Board of Directors of the Peapack-Gladstone Bank, Bedminster, NJ. His interest in community banking began when he served as a Director and President of the Board of the Directors of the Bernards State Bank, Bernardsville, NJ. John also had passion for Independent Education - serving on the Board of Trustees of the Oak Knoll School, Summit, NJ, Far Hills Country Day School, Far Hills, NJ, and LaJolla Country Day School, LaJolla, CA. John also served on the Overlook Medical Center Advisory Board, Summit, NJ, Somerset Hills Country Club Board of Governors - serving as Treasurer, the Peapack-Gladstone Borough Council and President of the Pottersville Fire Company. His greatest love was his wife Sheila of 50 years, his three children - John Mulcahy, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Elizabeth Davidson of Del Mar, CA, and Kara Valentine of Bernardsville, NJ and his six grandchildren - Harrison Valentine of Bernardsville, NJ, Tripp, Charlotte and Ben Davison of Del Mar, CA, and John and Griffin Mulcahy of Atlanta, GA. John is survived by his bothers Robert E. Mulcahy III of Basking Ridge, NJ and William J. Mulcahy of Lutherville, MD. Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, December 20, 2014.
