Chanas been watching Star Trek: TNG from the beginning, having only caught the show sporadically till now. Ive been watching along with her. Some stuff hasnt aged well (Approximately the first two and a half seasons), other stuff remains just as emotionally powerful as it had before (The Inner Light gets me weepy every time, no matter how often I watch it), and a few episodes are slightly better than Id remembered. One thing that bothers me more than it used to, though, is the portrayal of Samuel Clemens in Times Arrow. I hadnt thought of it previously, but not only does the actor come across like a Mark Twain impersonator giving a lecture to local elementary school students, hes also written as a bit of a dick who gets condescendingly corrected by Troi. As I said to Chana while we were watching it, I guess the crew is teaching Sam Clemens a lesson in optimism and a lack of cynicism, which kind of misses the whole point of the man.
