Change in Moon Sighting Methodolgy Dear Community Member Assalaam o Alaikum Wa rehmatullahe Wa barakatuhu, Ramadan is fast approaching, may Allah (SWT) make it a blessing for Austin Muslims and the Muslim Ummah. A perennial source of confusion and anxiety associated with the blessed month is the issue of moon sighting. Despite the fact that numerious times in the past, Imams from all Austin Masajid have issued consensus opinions that both Local and Global Moon sighting methods are equally acceptable, it usually leads to arguments and fitna. In the past, NAMCC has followed the Local sighting method for determining the start and end of Ramadan and the Global sighting method for determining the month of Hajj. Starting from Ramadan, this year, NAMCC will remove this inconsistency and adopt a fixed method for Ramadan, Dul-Hajj (and all other months) based on Global Moon Sighting. InshaAllah, this will align us with our brothers and sister in ICGA, Masjid Ibrahim and ICBC so that there is unity and solidarity amongst us and common days of Eid holiday for our kids. This decision is also in alignment with the fatwa from the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America (AMJA) and is endorsed by both NAMCC Imams.
