Changi airport is the pride of Singapore. But there is always a part of it that bothered me. And it reveals as much of us as a nation as it does of the complexities our economic success is built upon. Have you ever noticed that the toilet cleaners are often elderly who are clearly way past their retirement? Yes, they are gainfully employed. They are making a living. But what does it reflect of our values as a society? what does it tell of who we are? Does it mean if you are alone, you have to fend for yourself to your dying breath?
