Changing my eating habits was a small step, changing my fitness, a bigger one, but ODAAT taking care of my physical self is on track. The biggest challenge Im embracing now is this ... the spiritual one, the slow down, youll get more done, breathe - breathe deeply (have you ever stopped to realize how so many of us take short, shallow breaths as if were constantly in a race?) For months and months now, Ive tried to think of the perfect place in my apartment for meditation ... of course I have because perfect is my middle name. I thought it had to be a corner away from my daily life ... the hustle and bustle of business/exercise/entertaining. And then it struck me ... thinking and doing are both sides of balance ... and if my doing place is my desk, is there any reason my spiritual renewal couldnt also be there, so that instead of an isolated incidence of mindfulness - of meditation quickly swept under the rug once its done - I can embrace that grounding - that literal and metaphysical moment of reconnecting the outside and the inside - at any given moment in the day. Over the past 24 hours, Ive created a desktop sanctuary - a place that totally calms my mind and my thoughts and refocuses me on the now ... breathe in, and breathe out - find balance. I started a week ago, moving some of my flowering plants into place, and this morning I have completed the transformation of my workspace. And the real beauty? Instead of blocking my gorgeous river view it has given it a wonderful frame. Instead of removing me from my life, it has given it context.
