Chantilly Lace is the name of a rock and roll song written by Jerry Foster, Bill Rice, and The Big Bopper, who released the song in 1958. The single was produced by Jerry Kennedy. Originally cut for Pappy Dailys D label, the recording was purchased by Mercury Records and released in the summer of 1958. The song reached #6 on the pop charts and spent 22 weeks on the national Top 40. It was the third most played song of 1958. Jiles Perry J. P. Richardson, Jr. (October 24, 1930 -- February 3, 1959) also commonly known as The Big Bopper, was an American disc jockey, singer, and songwriter whose big voice and exuberant personality made him an early rock and roll star. He is best known for his recording of Chantilly Lace. On February 3, 1959, a day that has become known as The Day the Music Died (from Don McLeans song American Pie), Richardson was killed in a plane crash in Iowa, along with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens and pilot Roger Peterson.
