Chapter 2 - I inherited my Mums love of music and in my early teens I started to pester my Dad and Mum to buy me a guitar. I cant begin to explain how excited I was when, at Christmas1974, I woke to find an acoustic guitar at the foot of my bed. It was from MumsKays catalogue and I have no doubt that, as finances were extremely tight at the time, Dad and Mum must have made some sacrifices to cover the cost. I spent the whole of Christmas day and Boxing day learning to play 2 chords (E and A). My fingers were SO sore but that just added to the experience. I quickly realised that an acoustic guitar wouldnt make the same sound as the guitars I heard on records by the bands I liked at the time (Deep Purple, Status Quo etc). My wonderful Dad semi solved that problem by acquiring (from where I know not) a Grundig reel-to-reel tape recorder through which (by placing the microphone into the sound hole) I could amplify the guitar. Within a couple of years, I progressed to electric guitar (a Jedson telecaster copy since you ask) and kept practicing. My desire to be in a band was frustrated by the fact that I wasnt skilful enough to play the songs I was listening to. The first time I heard the Ramones ( James Taylor brought the LP to John Kings house) I remember thinking I could play that!. That moment changed everything. Thankyou Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy (RIP all) and you James 😃
