Chapter three, My sister i remember as more of an image than a person at first. Often she was home for short periods of time and then she was gone. She was unlucky and had damage done to he right hip. This left her with an infection of the bone. The Shriners and many other people in her life came to help her. My earliest image is that of my father carrying her while she was in a spika cast. This is a heavy construct designed to immobilize a person from their chest to calf of affected leg and then down to the other side stopping at the knee. There is a bar in place between the legs to prevent adduction which could damage the work. The new home was growing on me. I liked the freedom and enjoyed my new home. Family would come over and we would barbecue in the back yard. Harvey the old farmer of the home would show me how to pick in the garden. He also invited me to watch as he did the slaughtering of chickens and a hog. My sister on the other hand would disappear for periods of time where I remember it was hard for us. Just a typical Wisconsin family living on a farm eating beer brats. This was when I began to feel a change in me. I felt lonely as if I needed more. I felt as if I needed to be the center of what was going on.... This takes onto the road of trouble.
