Charles Miraculous-Architect Lipenga wrote a new note: CHAPTER 01 COMMUNICATION SKILLS [FROM THE BOOK: BIBLICAL BUSINESS SKILLS]. INTRODUCTION: The greatest people in business have certain attributes in common. Several personal qualities are important, like a thirst for continuous education, personal drive and motivation, strong goals and ambition, clear vision, and always a great deal of passion. Beyond those personal qualities though, what makes a successful business person stand out from the crowd? Today I am going to share with you some highlights of my chapter one from the new book that I am writing, enjoy. You need these skills if you want to get ahead ALL THE BEST: CHAPTER 01 COMMUNICATION SKILLS – A lot of people understand Communication as key in relationships, and we know it is the absolutely indispensable leadership discipline. But, too often, people don’t use this skill well in their businesses. I believe it is important you know what communication really is. Communication is the process of transferring signals/messages between a sender and a receiver through various methods (written words, nonverbal cues, spoken words). It is also the mechanism we use to establish and modify relationships. So lets begin. 1. WRITING SKILL –God shows us the importance of putting things down, whether it be a plan/ goal/ vision; Hab 2:2-3 The LORD gave me this answer: Write down clearly on tablets what I reveal to you, so that it can be read at a glance. Put it in writing, because it is not yet time for it to come true. But the time is coming quickly, and what I show you will come true. It may seem slow in coming, but wait for it; it will certainly take place, and it will not be delayed. Most people in business spend a lot of time communicating in writing. While the inter-office memo and the fax are old hat, you will spend a good few hours a day fighting your inbox. Add to this; reports, proposals and resumes, it’s certain you will need to sharpen your word power to succeed. In business, you have to improve in your writing skills, especially when it comes to reporting. To succeed in business, I always encourage everyone to learn to how to produce a written report, no matter the department you might be in.Whatever you do or want to do, whatever you have agreed with your clients/ partners put it down in writing, and make sure you date and time it. CASE STUDY: MATTHEW THE DETAILED REPORTER [AUTHOR] I have studied Matthew [the disciple of Jesus] who I believe was the accountant in the team, yes Judas Iscariot was a treasurer [the one who keeps money] but an accountant accounts for the money. Now remember Jesus went to Matthews’ Tax collecting office and told him to resign. As a tax collector one of the skills they had to develop was producing thorough reports. One question, which book in the New Testament gave a clear report of the events of Jesus Christ? I rest my case …[to be continued in the book] 2. SOCIAL NETWORKING SKILL – We are not all social gadflys, some people struggle to make small talk. It is a key skill to learn though, create a network, if not join an existing network that will not just educate you, but enable you to sell your service/ product to the larger community. With a proper understanding and application of this principle; the world will become smaller for you to access. CASE STUDY: THE SHREWD MANAGER. Ref Luke 16:1-8 Yes, for the sake of those who might not quite remember this story told by Jesus; A rich man hired a manager to handle his affairs, but soon a rumor went around that the manager was thoroughly dishonest. So his employer called him in and said, Whats this I hear about your stealing from me? Get your report in order, because you are going to be dismissed. this guy already knew that his boss was going to fire him as soon as he brings back the reports, now with his pride he couldn’t afford to become a beggar, so what did he do? He created a Social-business network. Oh I pray you get it. He called in all the people who were in debt to his master and made a nice and comfortable deal with them. Why? Because in his mind he was like, “and then Ill have plenty of friends to take care of me when I leave!”Brethren, get yourself linked up with the right people, it might be those in the same field with you or relating fields. Expand your business; get yourself connected to those you might need their services and those who might need your services. Have people following you and promoting your product/ service. Get connected to those you can learn from. I was testifying that, there are people who are willing to publish my books, as of now there some countries and cities that I don’t have to bother myself looking for accommodation, I have people who are more than willing to drive me from the airport. The power of Social networking. […Continued in the book] 3. SPEAKING SKILL – As much as almost every can talk, but not many are skilled to communicate well in speaking. First of all you must strive to learn the language of that business. Mechanics and Doctors may use English but they surely speak different languages. Public speaking for example, ranks high amongst the world’s most popular fears. You must overcome it and the best way is to practice. My testimony is just like that of Moses, I called to minister but growing up I used to stammer a lot that made me embarrassed to speak up especially in class and before elders, so it made me shy. BUT not anymore, now I am a motivational speaker, I go around the world using the same skill I never thought I had growing up to inspire others. I know, It might feel more comfortable working from the safety of your desk but at some point you are going to have to present. It might not be standing before the fierce Pharaoh like Moses, but we will all need to face our fierce pharaoh to get out of our Egypt. I know you get the point. You can ask a colleague to help you practice presenting something; Better to have some experience under your belt before being forced to perform unprepared when it really counts, trust me. CASE STUDY: PAUL VS. APOLLOS. Have you ever asked yourself this question… Why is that people were diving themselves between Paul and Apollos? I researched and I was surprised to find out that, Paul was short and not very good at speaking in public, but oh boy, he was the best at writing [Communication skill #1]. Unlike Paul, the tall and handsome Apollos was not as good at writing, but he spoke persuasively and eloquently, you know how some people can talk so convincing and have a demanding voice. Ahah, I know you got it, my prayer is that you work on both of these skills for you to succeed in your business, otherwise you have to hire someone who can do the other for you. […Continued in the book] 4. SKILLS ON SALES – Every business has to make sales, it might not all be in form of money, but there has got to be a transaction. Maybe you are not the sales manager, so you might think you do not need to sell but we all sell every day. From even before your first day you will be selling, starting at your interview all the way to asking the boss for a raise. I help out with a lot of people’s interview preparations; I always tell them this, “it is not about what you can do or how you do it, it’s about why you do what you do, why should they pick you?” That’s the same question all product manufacturers ask themselves for their products. In normal life we sell, persuading your partner that you really need that new purchase, getting out of that parking ticket … persuasion skills can come in very handy indeed. If you can persuade or induce someone to buy something you are also selling. Even the Gospel is marketed, we sell it out for free, the way you present it matters, it will determine one’s decision to buy what you are selling or not. I love what Apostle Paul once said. Titus 2:8 Let your teaching be so correct that it cant be criticized. Then those who want to argue will be ashamed because they wont have anything bad to say about us. When you want to “introduce [sell] the gospel to someone” in quotes, you don’t have to concentrate on telling him what the gospel can do for him, or how the gospel works, concentrate on sharing why he needs the gospel in his life, because when he understands the why, he will live it for himself. […Continued in the book] 5. NEGOTIATION SKILL – A lot of the skills are the same but you will find people who have been in business for a while can drive a hard bargain. If you do not have the skills you will lose out each and every time. Don’t ever find yourself in a situation where you say, “I have no choice.” No you always have a choice, you have the power to propose/ suggest/ refuse an offer. Learn to be bold and negotiate where negotiable. This is one business skill you need no matter the field you are in. CASE STUDY: PAPA ABRAHAM’S NEGOTIATING SKILLS. I got this special lesson from Papa Abraham, “IF YOU CAN’T SELL PERHAPS YOU CAN NEGOTIATE.” Abraham knew that he could not sell the people of Sodom and Gomorah to God, but perhaps he could negotiate on their behalf. Oh I pray you get this. So he went on pleading with God, that what if you find 10 righteous people, would consider. Gen 18:31-32 Abraham said, Please forgive my boldness in continuing to speak to you, Lord. Suppose that only twenty are found? He said, I will not destroy the city if I find twenty. Abraham said, Please dont be angry, Lord, and I will speak only once more. What if only ten are found? He said, I will not destroy it if there are ten. If Abraham negotiated with God, then what can you fail to do? […Continued in the book]
