Sweet Charleston Designs, a designer jewelry company will be at the Women’s Empowerment Program Saturday in Raleigh. Sweetgrass basket artists Tonya White and Mary Charles of Mount Pleasant will showcase their basket creations, along with various collections of Sweet Charleston Designs jewelry. The basket artists will give live basket weaving demonstrations and discuss their personal family history. Sweet Charleston Designs owners Janie Manning and Angie Buxton of Charleston are inviting several basket-makers to attend events around the country. “Charleston is the nucleus for the Gullah-Geechee tradition of baskets and was an ideal place to launch our collections,” said Manning about the expansion of their jewelry to destinations beyond the S.C. market.
