Charlie is having a bit of a holiday at the moment so I dont have - TopicsExpress

Charlie is having a bit of a holiday at the moment so I dont have a lot to report. Just want to note things for memory really. After decking me on the Wednesday he had Thursday off, and then came up lame in my lesson on Friday. Nothing major really. On the lunge he just looked a bit stiff behind, but hed been stood in and it was quite damp and cool so not totally unexpected. He was about 1/10 lame, maybe 2/10, when I got on though and obviously unhappy as he humped his back as soon as I put my leg on. We walked around for a couple of minutes to see if it eased off and when it didnt, I got off. Fortunately the Bowen therapist was visiting the following morning anyway so she had a look at him, did a good 2 hours worth of treatment focussing on his near hind in the hip region, off hind generally and near shoulder. He wasnt very happy at times and threatened to rear, which is a sure sign that something hurts, and did lots of leg waving (which is his reaction to anything stressful/exciting/very tasty!). By the end though he was much happier and relaxed. Verdict was that hed pulled some long named muscle in his hindquarters, probably self inflicted in the field as the herd had been manic for the week or so beforehand and he tends to be in the thick of things. He has to have 9 days of doing nothing unless its walking in a straight line, which is hard given its not pitch dark whenever I see him on weekdays, and then a few days very light work to ease him back into things. He was noticeably lamer when I turned him out on Saturday after the treatment, which had my heart in my mouth, but looked sound in a straight line in both walk and trot the following morning, so hopefully hes sorted. Ill trot him up at the weekend and reassess, if hes not right then it will be a vet visit.
