Fire House Facts Sunday October 27, 2013 through Saturday November 2, 2013 The Yuma Fire Department responded to 216 emergency calls for service 10 General Fire Response Including: A burning electrical smell from a commercial walk-in refrigerator, a stove fire, light bulbs that exploded and a burning smell from a light fixture at a clothing store, and various alarms 1 Mutual Aid Including: Request for assistance from Rural Metro for an emergency medical response to the Foothills 17 Motor Vehicle Crashes Including: 2 involving pedestrians, 1 involving 4 vehicles, 1 reported as “head on”, 1 rollover, 1 involving a school bus (without students), and 1 involving a house 1 Technical Rescue Team Response Including: Response to stabilize structure after a pickup truck struck a house and went into the dining room 171 Other Medical Emergencies (serious to minor) Including: 23 for difficulty breathing, 15 for chest pain, 23 fall victims, 11 unconscious people, 9 seizure cases, 2 possible strokes, 5 diabetic emergencies, 3 for intoxicated subjects, 5 for drug overdoses, 7 people with psychiatric problems, 1 for dehydration, 5 personal medical alarms, 1 for child locked in a car, 1 for allergic reaction, 1 dog bite, 1 insect sting, 7 for “man down” calls, 5 for bad headaches, 3 for uncontrolled bleeding, 1 for a burn injury, and other illnesses and injuries 16 Special Duty, Public Assistance, and Residential Assignments Including: 1 bonfire, 1 for subject stuck in an elevator, 1 for a fire in a laundry room, 4 for animal rescues (2 for dogs locked in vehicles,1 for a dog stuck between 2 gates, and a cat stuck in an attic), 1 for a subject stuck in a vehicle, and various alarms As our winter visitors continue to return, we will be sharing the roads with more and more vehicles. We don’t have to contend with ice and snow, but our streets do become more and more congested as the season progresses. Let’s all do our part to keep traffic moving smoothly and safely. Remember to plan your routes, allow more time, avoid distractions (like cell phones!) and use extra caution. When we take these steps we are not as rushed, and we are more aware of our surroundings. Remember to drive like your life depends on it!
