Chart work done, race sails on....its race day! Tonight R Bunce Sailing, A B Sailing and Sailsmith Racing- Piers Hugh Smith embark on their first Figaro race, teaming up with RMSailing, Alan Roberts Racing and Marcus Hutchinson. Robin Elsey Racing and Will Harris Sailing will also take part in the race as they conclude their 2014 double-handed season, as well as Cherry Racing with Redshift. Setting off at 1900 BST, the RORC Cherbourg Race is a 75nm channel hop from Cowes to Cherbourg, expected to finish sometime tomorrow before midday. Racing as part of the IRC 2 double-handed division, the race comes as a chance for the guys to really get to know the boats, experimenting with boat set up, short handed technique and speed alongside other Figaros - it looks like they will also be learning how to get the boat going in lighter winds, with not much forecast for the race...an essential element of Figaro racing! Today the squad take to the Solent for one final shake down race ahead of the sprint to Cherbourg. After a week of preparation, they cant wait to get going.
