Charter schools are fine for those that want something different; however, too most are like Starbucks coffee joints under the control of Mayor Ballard Administration. There may be one on every corner, they argue, but there might not be enough students to support them. Now they want more public monies The Marion City-County Council decides whether to approve applications for more new charter schools all in Marion County under UniGov. At what point have we reached the saturation point regarding charters? Public School Districts should be concerned about the ability of Indianapolis controlled by Mayor Ballard to absorb the number of charters that are being proposed. Schools operated by Charter Schools USA, the company the state has contracted takeover schools i.e., Manual and T.C. Howe High Schools and Emma Donnan Middle School. Last report they are not doing very well, low enrollment, high turn of teaching staff, students running amok, standards not being met are a few example of the turmoil which is occuring and not being reported to the public. When a taxpaying citizens want to know about Charter operating costs they are told to butt out because they are private corporation, and to do have to tell them anything like real public schools.
