Check out some of the programs at the Saratoga Library: November 4 at 7 p.m. - Guitarist Peter Fletcher Live in Concert. Award-winning classical guitarist Peter Fletcher comes to the Saratoga Library. Steven Rings of The American Record Guide: “He has a strong technique, a consistent tone, and a strong interpretive imagination.” Peter Burwasser of Fanfare Magazine: “Fletcher plays it all with a gracious virtuosity that makes for a very pleasing hour plus of unaffected musical poetry.” November 4 at 7:30 p.m. - Book Discussion Group: Billy Lynns Long Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain A razor-sharp satire set in Texas during Americas war in Iraq, it explores the gaping national disconnect between the war at home and the war abroad. November 5 at 7 p.m. - Business English Conversation Group Are you a non-native English speaker? Do you have trouble communicating with your boss in English? Do your coworkers use idioms and phrases that are confusing for a non-native speaker? Come to our Business English conversation group to practice speaking and listening in career situations. November 9 at 2 p.m. - Understanding the Civil War, 150 Years Later On November 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln spoke at the dedication of the cemetery at Gettysburg, site of a pivotal battle of the American Civil War. Dr. Robert Senkewicz will discuss the way our understanding of that war has changed during the subsequent 150 years. Dr. Senkewicz is a professor in the History Department of Santa Clara University and also served as the faculty director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at SCU. Co-sponsored by Los Gatos-Saratoga AAUW and Saratoga Library. November 18 at 7 p.m. - Financial Aid Workshop in English (Community Room) and in Mandarin (Training Room). Patrons will learn the ins and outs of College Financial Aid. They will learn about financial aid sources, about what FAFSA means, how to calculate financial aid eligibility, about Cal Grant A and B, and more. Financial aid for all types of higher education institutions will be discussed, including Community Colleges, Cal State University, University of California and Private Colleges. This program will be presented by advisors from the Financial Aid Office at Mission College. November 25 at 7 p.m. - JFK Assassination: Forensic Analysis Learn about the science behind the assassination. How did the FBI analyze the evidence? What advances in forensic science have made it easier to examine crime scenes? Join Mark Okuda, Evergreen College professor, to learn more.
