Check out this brief but substantive 10 minute interview with Mind and Life Fellow David McMahan and Tricycle contributing editor Linda Heuman. It concerns the ongoing dialogue between Buddhism and science — from its early roots (including the MLI Dialogues with the Dalai Lama), through its multiple contexts, and including the controversies that are part and parcel of any such investigation. As discussed in the interview, Buddhism and science in particular had an early and noteworthy encounter in the modern period due to larger historical trends, but we can ask how these same issues might affect other contemplative traditions as well. Or are there other, more salient matters to consider?
