Check this out! On October 25th, 2014 as the “Don’t Attack Iraq!” rally was wrapping up, a Winnipeg police officer approached the activists telling them that there was a noise complaint. The decibel level of the microphone was much lower than the cars going by the very busy intersection of River and Osborne in Osborne Village. People were saying they could barely hear from the sidewalk. The microphone had only been in use around 10-15 minutes. The platform people were speaking from was located in front of the Gas Station theater where there’s regular concerts and even all night concerts from time to time. The speeches at the protest/rally took place at 3 in the afternoon. It seemed evident that the police officer was just there to project power of some kind. While he was nice and joked a lot, he was clearly not within his rights and seemed to simply be there to rustle people. Josh explains that he may have gone a bit over the top out of annoyance but that the point was clear, telling people to turn down volume at such a low decibel was futile and out of the officer’s jurisdiction. https://youtube/watch?v=vc_W0dCgNkE You can find the article here: https://winnipegalternativemedia/2014/10/winnipeg-police-officer-confronts-anti-war-activists/
