January 10. Happy 80th birthday today to Ronnie Hawkins. This rockabilly dynamo was born and raised in Arkansas, but - on the advice of Conway Twitty - he started touring in Canada in 1958. He eventually settled in Toronto, where he put together a band - The Hawks - that included Canadians Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson. Drummer Levon Helm from Arkansas was also on board. Now thats a band! Ronnie has battled pancreatic cancer in recent years, but hes still definitely alive and kickin.
