Checked out a new church last night. It was like stepping back - TopicsExpress

Checked out a new church last night. It was like stepping back into the past. It reminded me of my first experience in a Protestant based church. The people were simple, caring, and non-judgmental. There was an alter call, jeez, I have not seen one of those in 20 years or better. I listened to such songs as Love lifted me. My son was in shock at the old time approach to faith. To me it was a little refreshing. I dont know how to put this into words. But I believe something has been lost with the modern day church. Sure these new churches have all the bells and whistles but sometimes I feel as if the heart of the gospel has been washed right out of them. Yes I believe in Grace but with Grace comes sweet release that is only known through genuine remorse for the damage that has been done. Sometimes what we hear as Christians is you are forgiven, let it go. When what we should be hearing is the price has been paid, the debt is no longer, repent and let it go. No we dont hold onto the sin for an extended period, because then it holds us hostage. Yet in our hearts we must understand the damage that has been done in order to avoid the same trap again. Maybe it is time to go back to the basics and stop trying to re-write or re-interpret the Gospel. Anyway those are my thoughts.
