Chelsea are bracing themselves for fresh interest in Juan Mata - TopicsExpress

Chelsea are bracing themselves for fresh interest in Juan Mata this January with PSG set to bid £40m for the Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham target, according to the Daily Star. Mata endured a difficult start to life under new boss Jose Mourinho, finding himself on the substitutes bench for much of the early months of the season. He eventually looked to have won his place back in the Chelsea first team last month but the return was short-lived and he soon found himself back on the bench. This has led to uncertainty surrounding the future of the 25-year-old and the Star claim that Arsenal, Liverpool, United and Spurs are all monitoring his situation closely and are expected to try their luck when the transfer window re-opens in January. However, the Premier League quartet are not the only admirers with the newspaper suggesting that big-spending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint- Germain are also keen and are ready to test Chelsea’s resolve with a mammoth £40m bid this winter and also tempt Mata with the promise of regular first team football. The former Valencia playmaker is desperate to secure a place in the Spain squad for next summers World Cup and his bit-part role at Stamford Bridge can’t be doing him any favours, so the lure of a regular starting spot may prove difficult to turn down. Chelsea have always insisted they don’t want to sell but with Mourinho continuing to under-use the attacker, it’s clear the Portuguese coach doesn’t consider him an indispensable member of his squad, so the club may find it difficult to reject an offer in the region of £40m – particularly from a foreign buyer.
