Chelsea complete signing of André Schürrle English Premier League side Chelsea FC have officially announced the signing of André Schürrle from Bayer 04 Leverkusen. It had been announced on 13 June that the two clubs had agreed a deal for the 22-year old German. On Tuesday the German international signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge and was handed the number 14 shirt ahead of the 2013-14 Premier League season. André Schürrle commented on the Blues’ official website: “I am so happy now I have signed and it is an honour for me to play for this club, with this team and for these great fans. I am really looking forward to it.” Schürrle came through the youth ranks of Mainz 05 whom he made his German Bundesliga with as an 18-year old in August 2009. The versatile youngster has played as both a left forward and central striker successfully in the top flight of Germany prior to moving abroad for the first time in his career. Last season, André Schürrle 11 league goals in 34 appearances and a further 2 goals in 6 UEFA Europa League matches, helping Bayer Leverkusen finish third in the Bundesliga and qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions Leagu Schürrle has played at both under-19 and under-21 level for Germany before making his senior international debut in a friendly as a substitute against Sweden in November 2010. He has scored 7 goals in 24 appearances for the German national team.
