Chelsea target tells his club he wants to leave It’s the news that all Chelsea fans have been waiting for, as Atletico Madrid’s star striker has told the La Liga winners that he wants to leave the club this summer, reports Inside Futbol. The Blues have been tracking the player for the long time, and his potential switch to Stamford Bridge emerged as one of the highest-profile potential deals in the early transfer window. Not only has Diego Costa made clear his intentions to leave Madrid, though, he has also outlined his preference to join Jose Mourinho and Chelsea. The deal has looked almost inevitable since speculation first emerged, and now it appears that it is only a matter of time before papers are signed. A Costa deal is not the only significant piece of business that the two clubs will be conducting together this summer though. For the past three seasons, Atletico have had the services of highly-rated goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, at their disposal, and they would like an extension on his loan deal. However, it is believed that Mourinho is working on bringing the Belgian international back to Stamford Bridge this year, and somehow integrating him into a team which includes Petr Cech. Courtois is adamant that he must have first team football, and so was initially reluctant to leave the Spanish champions, having achieved that with them. The young player certainly has talent though, and bags of potential, that Mourinho will not want to let slip away from the Blues. Atletico are asking for another season-long loan, and if they obtain it, then the departure of Diego Costa might hurt a little less. Mourinho will be looking to bring both players to London, though, and to significantly damage a Champion’s League rival in the process.
