Chemo #1: Lucass first chemo treatment happened last night. It was strangely anti-climactic. The nurse came in, hooked up another line, and in a half hr the first meds were done... repeat for the second brand of chemo and it was done. Just like that. If theres any nausea itd likely start today. Hair loss (if it happens) will likely be in a few weeks. Were hoping for low side effects - prayers for that please. We have 5 total rounds of chemo meds and then we are back to our life at Scott Street. ((Possibly home Tuesday)) Feelings: Mike and I are in such a strange mode where the surreal meets reality. Processing comes in waves of strength, humor, confusion, seas of information, procedures, tears, disbelief, hand holding, snarky remarks, visitors, and glimpses of our old selves from just 9 days ago. Its hard. Its easy. Its scary. Its out of our hands. Its everything in between. Its our new normal. We believe that we are in the right place with Lucass treatment. The staff, doctors, nurses, and everyone we encounter have been wonderful at providing care for our little man of steel and for us as we process our emotions. I have to tell you that some of our biggest tears come from the most touching moments, messages, and gestures. We are deeply moved by every message that each and every one of you send to us. King Lucas: Lucass way of processing things varies. At times hes subtle and quiet with big sad brown eyes. Other times he turns into King Lucas... demanding sweets, distractions, and anything he can think of. While it is a bit much at times, it makes me laugh and reassured knowing that hes still got his spunk and sassiness. Hes a fighter for sure as he lets the nurses know JUST how he feels about getting tugged and and taped and jostled around. Sometimes we just giggle with our backs turned because hes just got grit. New Culture: 1. Wash in - Wash out. If youre going to visit, ya gotta wash your hands before you come in the room and before you leave. REALLY important. 2. Text First - if youre planning to come in for a visit. Please text before you leave the Lansing area. Were not sure what to expect from side effects and tiredness. Were happy to make plans but know that things can be changed at the last minute. 3. Charlie & Hannah - we know how you want to bring fun stuff to Lucas and we so much appreciate it. It is just so sweet to have all of you pitching in to make his stay here a bit more pleasant. However, we are finding that Charlie and Hannah are having a tough time processing the fact that Lucas gets Christmas non-stop and they dont. If you could consider this when bringing stuff by, wed be eternally grateful. Wed ask either not to bring goodies or toys and just share a few laughs with Lucas or to bring a little fun for Charlie and Hannie too. 4. Thank yous - we are so beyond words of thanks.... we can not believe the outpouring of love, gifts, mail, prayers, positive energy, phone calls, texts, FB support, financial support, gift cards, and joy that you are sharing with us that we are unable to keep up with thank yous. Please know that were are SO VERY THANKFUL for EVERYTHING that all of you are doing. Thank you. From our souls - thank you. Thats all for now. All our love, M & e & L
