Chennai Express Review If you are familiar with Rohit Shetty’s craft and think SRK is one of the best things to happen to Hindi cinema, then ‘Chennai Express’ is a blockbuster. Shetty and SRK keep you entertained throughout. There isn’t a single original idea in the plot but a majority of the audience were sure not complaining. In fact, the whole idea of spoofing everything that SRK has done before and more adds to the entertainment quotient. ‘Chennai Express’ works at a level where ‘Himmatwala’ had colossally failed – it manages to successfully spoof the Bollywood-formula. I guess what makes the film watchable, is the fact that Shah Rukh and Deepika sure did seem to have a lot of a fun during the making of the film. It’s quite evident that while they approached the role with utmost seriousness, they treated themselves very casually. In a film like this one, it is pointless to mention that there was absolutely zero chemistry between the lead pair, that there isn’t even a hint of ingenious humour, it is also superfluous to note that if you were expecting a spark of brilliance in a predictable climax, you will indeed be disappointed. To give Rohit Shetty his due, this is by far his best work till date. The director remains true to character and delivers high-octane drama complete with slick production values. If you are a die-hard Shah Rukh fan and if you can overlook the many indulgences of the Rohit Shetty-style of filmmaking there is no reason for you not to love this movie.
