Cheryl needs your ideas: Does anyone have someone (a child - TopicsExpress

Cheryl needs your ideas: Does anyone have someone (a child perhaps) in their life where nothing is ever enough? One more everything, a debate over why there cant be more or why the answer is no, asking again and again and again every 10 minutes even when the answer was originally no, etc.? Or if a family member is invited somewhere or has a fun activity, the someone automatically wants to know what they are getting too? On the one hand, I get frustrated and am often exhausted and out of patience with all of the pushing. Gimme, gimme, gimme! Mine, mine, mine! It feels like the cry of a generation, and I dont want to contribute this attitude to the world. On the other hand, I think, What is it that you are yearning for or what need is not getting met that makes you behave like this? How can I better support you so that you dont need, need, need so much, all day, every day? Part of my particular situation definitely returns back to sensory processing - my someone vacillates between sitting like a log and zoning out and wanting tons of input. The area he likes most for input is taste/texture. He wants to eat, taste, drink, etc. constantly and its all about sweets and sugar - more than a more typical kid. Im trying to teach him balance, but its so often a struggle and a debate, and I find myself saying/snapping no at him. Im thinking about making him meal and activity cards for each day that he can trade for what he wants/needs, and maybe even give him the opportunity to earn more cards of what hes wanting more of. 1/2 hour of physical activity = 1 ice pop/glass of lemonade/30 minutes of TV time? Hopefully, by seeing it in pictures, he can better grasp what he should be taking in daily? Wed do it with all of our kids, and I know the overall lesson would be positive. I just wonder if it would take all the pushing down to a more manageable level? Insights and input would be very much appreciated on this.
