Chester, the rescued false killer whale calf currently under care - TopicsExpress

Chester, the rescued false killer whale calf currently under care at the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Centre, continues to improve. He currently weighs 109 kg and is now 2.2 m long. This week he was weaned off fish formula and now eats 8 kg of fish (herring, capelin and Spanish sardines) each day. His energy levels are very good, he spends a lot of time playing, diving and spyhopping. He continues to be very tactile with his caregivers, enjoying belly rubs and playing with toys for enrichment. He is still in critical condition and under 24 hour watch, but we are pleased with his progress so far. These next few months will be extremely critical for his recovery, and we continue to monitor him very closely.
