Chesuncook Lake Bigfoot Encounter https://youtube/watch?v=8TiL7h1ds4s Hobgoblins of the Wild North Woods In this session well look at the story written by Winthrop Packard, published in a 31 December, 1902 issue of the Boston Evening Express newspaper. Packard writes of some of the legends of the area of Maines Great North Woods surrounding the Chesuncook Lake region in the latter 1800s. While the beast we know as Bigfoot has been a popular figure in todays literature of the cryptid realm , the term has only existed for the last fifty some years. Prior to that time, at least during the first half of the twentieth century, Bigfoot was frequently placed under the umbrella description as being some sort of ape-man. But before the twentieth century, this creature we call ape-man or Bigfoot was always referred to as a wild man. A hairy giant of the woods. Todays story tells of an eight foot tall, hairy beast of a man-like being skulking the woods of the Chesuncook Lake region of Maine. The tales begin as two travelers make their way to a lumber camp, and momentarily experience the wonder of the cry of the wild man floating through the crisp night air of a Maine winter, seemingly coming from the heights of Katahdins snow covered summit. Later, a ghost story is shared in the warmth of the wangan (womgan)of a man who was found buried in a self filling grave. The nightly tales next turn to an incident that occurred, supposedly, along the ice road across Chesuncook. The night rounds out with the men, hearing a noise in the night, surprise the very same monster under discussion raiding the dingle (storehouse) of the camps kitchen. Are these stories simply tall tales from the rough logging camps of Maines logging past, or could the really be stories of true Bigfoot encounters form the late nineteenth century? Follow along and decide for yourselves as Bigfoot Tales shares the story of Hobgoblins of the Wild North Woods.
