Chicago Halloween activities: HAPPY HAUNTINGS AT CHICAGO CULTURAL CENTER OFFERS A NEW HOME FOR THE CITY OF CHICAGO’S HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL, OCTOBER 23-26 Celebration features Midnight Circus, ghost tours, trick-or-treating and more The witching hour is near and the Chicago Cultural Center is the place to be for Halloween fun at Happy Hauntings this October 23-26! New this year, the City of Chicago’s annual Halloween celebration will move from Daley Plaza to the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington) for four days of ghost tours, arts and crafts, costume contests, Midnight Circus performances, movies and much more. The FREE admission Happy Hauntings begins Thursday, October 23, 4 – 7 p.m. and continues Friday, October 24, through Sunday, October 26, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. For a complete schedule of events, visit chicagoween.us. Prepare yourself to be amazed! The “spooktacular” acrobats of Chicago’s one and only Midnight Circus are up to their haunted hijinks for the 17th straight year in a new venue! Come watch the heart-stopping feats of otherworldly acrobatics and wickedly wonderful theatrics against the backdrop of the gorgeously-ghostly Preston Bradley Hall, 3rd Floor South. With plenty of tricks to treat even the coldest of hearts, this all-new, gravity-defying show is sure to excite mummies & daddies, boys and ghouls of all ages! Kids won’t want to miss the annual Monster Bash on Saturday, October 25, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Highlights includes Midnight Circus performances, trick-or-treating (while supplies last), a dance party and of course the Monster Bash Costume Contest in the Sidney R. Yates Gallery, 4th Floor North. The Monster Bash Costume Contest is open to children ages 12 and under with awards going to the scariest, funniest and most original. There will also be a best costume category for children under 12 months. Children should line up to participate at 10:45 a.m. with the contest beginning at 11:15 a.m. New for 2014 are Ghost Tours! Join us for a haunted walk through the halls of the Chicago Cultural Center. Learn about a long gone librarian who can’t let go, presences in G.A.R. Hall, furniture moving in a blink of the eye and other strange occurrences. Tours will begin daily at 6 p.m. in Randolph Square, 1st Floor North, October 23-26. Happy Hauntings will also present two films in the Claudia Cassidy Theater, 2nd Floor North. On Friday, October 25, at 6:30 p.m., don’t miss the 1984 classic film Gremlins (rated PG). Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Gremlins is the story about the catastrophe of what happens when you break the three crucial rules to owning a Mogwai. Frankenweenie (rated PG) will be shown on Saturday, October 26, at 6:30 p.m. The stop-motion animated film about a boy and his dog with characters voiced by Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short and Martin Landau will delight the whole family. Food trucks will also be on site on the Washington side of the building Friday - Sunday for tasty treats.
