Chicagos main songwriter, Robert Lamm, wrote Saturday In The Park after a particularly exhilarating 4th of July in 1971 that he spent in New Yorks Central Park, where there were steel drum players, singers, dancers and jugglers. The catchy tune was recorded for the 1972 album Chicago V, with Lamm on piano and lead vocals and Peter Cetera on bass and backing vocals. It became the groups first gold single.
