Chicks are here. Black ones, orange ones, yellow ones and shades - TopicsExpress

Chicks are here. Black ones, orange ones, yellow ones and shades in between. Oliver pesters me to lift him up to see them each time I check on and clean them out ....which is often. Bought pasture mixture grass seed today for the front half of the garden area. I am turning it into pasture for the goats. Far too much garden for me to care for. Need to drag out the harrows and go over the ground before seeding. I just need to find a roller to get the seed in contact with the ground since we do not own one. Booked 3 goats in today at the butchers. That is the last of this years goats. Just my milking nannies left now. Cally has lost her job of keeping the wild geese off the pond. Noticed this morn. that there is a gaggle of goslings out there. She must have hidden the nest well. I did not know there was one. My hired man did not show up for the 2nd day in a row. Not even phone call to let me know he was not going to be here. I was really counting on an extra pair of hands. Put the cow and new calf out to pasture this morn. Sunny day and this little fellow will benefit from some sun on his back. Dusted my potatoes this am. with flour. Checked this aft for potato bugs. There are far fewer out there now than there has been for the past couple of days. Have not got time to hand pick them every day. Called the sawmill again today to have a load of fire logs dropped off. Have heard they are laying men off due to a shortage of trees to harvest. Planted shallots and more multiplier onions today. Row of parsley in today. A few tomatillo planted for salsa. Put another row of pumpkins in. Finally put the basil in the ground. Basil does not like cold feet and the ground has not really warmed up enough to plant them. Peppers went into the ground last week, but they do not look happy, they are well mulched to prevent the ground temp. from cooling off too much. Chickens destroyed part of my herb garden while I was in town today. I think they know when it is safe to get into things that they should not get into. They flew up onto my table outside and helped themselves to my lettuce boxes also. More haskap berry bushes to plant yet. Looking for some part time farm help if anyone is interested. Haying season has started! The season is flying by fast! Picked the first ripe strawberry today.
