Chief Patricia Bernard of the Madawaska Maliseet First Nation: Tomorrow I will be heading to St Marys First Nation to sign a resolution with all the other Maliseet Chiefs that opposes any shale gas testing or shale gas development. Box 6000 Fredericton, NB E3B 5H1 SWN Resources Canada Inc. 633 Main Street Moncton, NB E1C 9X9 Dear Premier Alward, Minister Leonard, and SWN Resources Canada Inc.: The Wolastoqiyik First Nations Chiefs and Band Councillors of New Brunswick and the Maliseet Grand Council support environmental protection and sustainability within each of their communities and within the Province of New Brunswick. The undersigned Chiefs and their Bands are concerned that exploration and development of shale gas will cause permanent and serious damage to their community’s water sources and lands. Exploration and development of Shale gas does not promote environmental sustainability or provide adequate protection to the First Nation’s lands.
