Chiefs Babble....on the Crazy Cousins Invasion. Day three of the tour of police department Facebook pages is almost in the books. There are a host of police agencies that are doing some great things in social media and we will profile one of them every day. It is funny to see the “likes” on these pages rise when the Crazy Cousins pull a virtual invasion. Now for the rhetorical question of the day…why are we introducing all of you to all of these departments? That is an easy question to answer… When we started the Brimfield Police page, my goal was to reach 137,000 “likes” and then start spreading the love. Okay….that was hogwash. My tongue was firmly planted in my cheek for that answer. This whole Facebook page is a huge surprise to us, most of you and probably to the rest of the planet. That idea being offered, I believe it is our responsibility to tell you all we are not the only police department doing some very good things. Most of you already know that, but there are those who come to our page because they believe we are “different than other police.” That is just not true. You want to know what is true? The BAD police officers- the ones who do not go above and beyond- the ones who are “retired on duty,” mean, surly and end up in the news for doing bad things…they are different and far less in number than those of us who love the profession and try to always be honorable. The bad thing is…the only police some people want to discuss are those in the very small minority. We…our 137,000 Crazy Cousins, the Brimfield Police and all of the rest of the good police officers all over the planet Earth…are going to change that mindset, for good. We will continue to profile pages and departments every day. We will continue to showcase the great things police officers are doing. For all of you police officers checking in with us- no matter what is said, no matter how many pile on the profession, continue to hold you heads high and act with honor and dignity. We will change the hearts and minds of those who think negatively. We will drive those who should not be in our ranks and in our profession straight out the door. We will do both by standing for what is right, telling the truth and being there… for whatever reason people need us. Being “the police” is an honorable profession. We will reflect it in that light….Chief Oliver.
