Chief’s Babble…..on today. Today was a typical day for a BPD officer…… •I was in at about 3a.m. this morning and joined a pursuit with Officer Dumont. We got the license plate of the car and have the driver identified. He will be getting arrested soon. Conditions weren’t the best for mope chasing….it was rainy and the roads were slick. I also would like to find the person who opened up the gates to a petting zoo somewhere in the township. Cresting a hill with lights and sirens blazing and seeing Bambi and 297 members of Bambi’s immediate family standing in the middle of the road greatly impacts bladder control…. •At 8 a.m. we greeted our friends for a morning of school clothes shopping at Marshall’s. For those of you who wondered; yes, we were having as much fun as the kids. Every single one of those kids thanked us. There were lots of high fives and hugs. I have a great staff here. Our mission is to serve AND protect and we do not take that lightly. We also believe in being a giant pain in the neck for criminals. It’s sort of fun to mess up their day…. •When I got back to work this evening, I was greeted by officers who were dealing with lots of different issues. One was a drunken guy who also swallowed some cocaine while being chased by another agency. We went east in the west lanes of I-76, west in the east lanes….jumped hills and generally drove like he was raised in Hazzard County. We had to try to catch him, because he had hit numerous vehicles and officers believed if they did not get him stopped, he would have injured or killed someone. After he hit more cars on SR43 near Franks Ice Cream….officers got him. He did not go quietly. He fought with officers and the result of that fight was him getting TASED. I heard he responded with “Ouch, that hurts”….which seems pretty appropriate considering the circumstances….He is at the bed and breakfast and will wake up with a pounding headache and watery oatmeal. Good for him…. •We had another crash and another drunken driver. I’m not sure how we get people to stop driving drunk. Throw in a theft from a store and a bunch of other calls and it leads to mountains of paperwork for Sgt. McCarty, Officer Gramlich and afternoon shift. Police work is a lot like American Top 40….the hits just keep coming…..Chief Oliver
