Silicon Valley startup Frankly goes public via Canada The San Francisco-based instant messaging Startup Frankly elected to publicly list its stock on Canadas TSX Venture Exchange, forgoing the usual route through the American venture capital market. Franklys use of the TSX Venture Exchange allowed it more access to capital both now and in the future, the ability to avoid interference in business activities by investors, a fast track to public listing not available on Nasdaq, and less red tape. CEO Steve Chung stated that for all of the innovation that we have in Silicon Valley, the way we fund-raise hasnt transformed in 30 years. Its still a very venture capital-driven industry. [The TSX Venture Exchange is a] perfect platform for growth companies, like technology companies, who in some ways, have similar risk profiles as mining companies. inkblot.ca/2014/11/21/silicon-valley-startup-frankly-goes-public-via-canada/
