Chief’s commentary, a little silly, a little serious. Now - TopicsExpress

Chief’s commentary, a little silly, a little serious. Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone I can now openly listen to Christmas music without to many raised eyebrows. :) Those that know me personally know that I am a Christmas music junkie. Especially the oldies like Nat King Cole (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire), Bing Crosby (White Christmas) and (Do You Hear What I Hear), Harry Simeone Chorale (The Little Drummer Boy) and Andy Williams (It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year) just to name a few. There is something about Christmas music that just makes me smile and warms my heart. My calendar of when it is acceptable to listen to these songs is admittedly nonexistent. Recently I was thinking about why I have what many think is odd, a passion for holiday tunes. There is something about the Christmas season that brings the best out of people, compassion for one another, joy, celebration and an overall sense of something magical. We see businesses and citizens sponsor the less fortunate by purchasing gifts and food. Peace seems to come to most, especially on Christmas Day. Humanity worldwide seems to be affected in a positive way during the Christmas season. People seem to be more tolerant and caring. Now to do some deep thinking. The profession that I love and am very passionate about also has a dark side. Unfortunately those in law enforcement have seen and experienced some of the worst things life has to offer. We see ugly acts of violence to others and themselves. We experience tragedy and horrific scenes, some of which will haunt us forever. When you think you have seen and witnessed just about everything, the next incident throws you for a loop. We are hated by some just because of the uniform we wear, hatred so deep deadly violence is used against us, encouraged and accepted. I guess subconsciously, the reason why I enjoy Christmas music so much is that I wish the magic of the Christmas spirit would impact all of us year round and not just a couple weeks in December. What kind of world would we live in if everyone acted and treated each other like it was Christmas Day every day? Chief Peter Hoell https://youtube/watch?v=__kQ1PCP6B0
