Children’s Hope project is an after school food program and supervised study that an individual was doing out of pocket for almost 2 years and is now a project of CAS Foundation. This is mostly for the orphan children and the ones that their parents are working as overseas foreign workers or OFW as they call them. As funds were available, they were sent for rice and fish. Included is a photo of a group of the children that have gotten some fish and rice and they all shared a bottle of pop from the little store there. They have snacks and then work on their schoolwork or one of the children will read to them out of the books that were sent. Some of the books are story, science, art, and a couple of the Uncle Arthur bible stories and bedtime story books. Also sent were a few drawing books and rulers and other art supplies and the local store gives them the end rolls of wrapping paper to draw on. There are other needs that we want to address. With the limited diet, we would like to see what can be done about vitamins and supplements. We have a couple local doctors that are donating items that we can send in the boxes that we want to start sending every one to three months. We are not doing this as a complete handout. They are expected to have their lessons and they also help sweep and mop as well as offer help to the elderly as needed. We are not wanting to get this started as a dependency type thing but as a hand to help them to get nutrition as well as supervised studies and motivational. We have a short term goal of raising $12,000 and a longer term of $25,000. We would like to be able have the resources to get this established on a permanent basis. The place where we had many of the supplies was not completely secure on the end of the roof and while the worker was gone many supplies got stolen. We paid for a long term lease but the ends of the roof are not secure yet and there is some basic finishing that needs to be done. Not to get it to US standards but to get it weather tight. We have a retired businessperson formerly from the US over there that will help oversee the work but I have to get the materials etc. When we get the $12,000 raised, we are planning on going there and getting the infrastructure in place and the storeroom stocked as well as food shipments organized through the end of the year. When the full $25,000 is raised, we will also do additional work getting storage equipment and cooking equipment installed as well as finish getting plastering done and screens up to prevent mosquito and other problems. A contractor from Ohio has offered to go at his own expense and help when the materials can be bought. Once all of this is done, we will have a monthly budget need of $1400 a month.
