Chille was late for work today and he STILL got paid! On Sunday mornings, he works at a local store - he removes the day old newspapers and stacks them carefully in the back shop room. Then he unloads a shopping cart of the Sunday newspapers - he needs to stack them up nicely and squarely, making sure the inserts dont fall out, and put them in the appropriate slot for each of the six different newspapers the shop sells. This job came to be because every Sunday morning, Chille would walk to the store and buy my NYTimes for me. One Sunday, the shopping cart full of Sundays newspapers was stolen by the time the shopkeeper opened at 9 am. Now, delivery of the papers occurs after she opens, at 9:10, but shes the only one there and doesnt have time to do the papers and check out the waiting customers. So Chille stepped in and ever since, he has a job at 9:10 every Sunday morning. Today, at 9 am, I told Chille he should get ready to leave. At 9:05 am, he was still watching a YouTube video. At 9:11, he ran out the door barefoot, having no time to put on his shoes. At 9:20, he returned, hanging his head with his arms draped at his side, rounded shoulders and back like a gorilla. Me: How was work? Chille: I was late. Me: Did you still do the newspapers? Chille: No, I was too late. Customers were lined up to buy the papers so she had to do it. Me: Wheres my NYTimes? Chille: Oops! I forgot! So he ran back to the store to buy my NYTimes and returned with the biggest smile on his face. In his hands were TWO SLIM JIMS! He was late for work and STILL got paid. But his feet were filthy!
