Chilliheads, whats the TRPV1 protein you may ask.. Cells that detect sensation all work in the same way, on the surface of cells are channels, on the surface of those channels is a protein thats designed to open that channel when a certain thing happens, whether it be the presence or salt or heat or sound or light, this is how we detect everything. The protein TRPV1 is designed to open a channel when detecting heat, acidity or abrasion but it also, just by chance is activated by a molecule called capsaicin. Capsaicin is entirely harmless, it does no damage to your skin but it opens that channel so its detected by your brain as pain. Its nothing more than a biological accident, so go on get that naga down your neck!
