Chinese professor in trouble for courting fans An associate professor from China’s Minzu University has come under fire online after it was revealed that she had been coercing students to join her fan club. According to Chinanews, the professor, named Sarula, who teaches human resource management at the university, had posted ads in group chats, asking students to join her fan club. Not just that, she’d even asked one of her students to pay the membership fee. Screenshots of those chats were posted online on Chinese social media and soon went viral. Some of them even showed conversations between students who complained that the professor had apparently told them off for not gifting her on public holidays. According to the conversations, the students said that they were termed “unsophisticated” for not gifting the lady. Amidst all the criticism online, however, the professor has stuck to her guns. In a statement posted on her private social network, she said that the students were “not qualified to comment on this issue; how could one prove his loyalty, if he wouldn’t even give you 200 yuan ($33)?” The university, however, has not been as flippant, and says that it will be probing the case.
