Chloe, my daughter and I talked on the phone yesterday about becoming a mother. She, like I am, is getting older and is considering becoming a mother. Shes feeling the unspoken pressure of female friends who are pregnant or have small children. She has doubts and questions; fears considering the times we live in. Shes is in a relationship with a man she shares a deep soul connection. A young man who, like she, is part of the younger generation who embody the Global Mind Shift. Founder of a non profit called Waves for Water, a former surfer who grew up in Southern California, as did she.. California, with its earthquakes, smog, drought and a governor, Jerry Brown, who spent time in Asia learning about meditation, from Buddhist monks, who practice compassion and non violent confict resolution on a personal and greater community level. And as we spoke an image of her in grade school popped up. Shes about 12 years old and I arrive at lunchtime to visit a teacher.. Shes on a grassy field, leading a group of much younger children, a small vibrant Pied Piper, as they sang, skipped and danced. After our talk, I sent her an email that re-iterated much of what shes experienced and seen growing up with a single mother. It was hard. It was glorious, it was life changing for me on a soul deep level. It cracked my heart open. Sometimes it scared me! The message ended with its your journey.. youll Know what to do. If you dont have your own child, there will be so many out there who will need your love, who will revel and thrive in your tender care. I would love to be a grandmother, but there will be and are children out there who will thrive and revel in my grandmothers presence. Either way, its a win win wrapped in love and laughter. And that for me, is what life at its best is about..
