Choptank Electric Cooperative, in partnership with Rock Creek Line Construction, has started the process of relocating overhead lines located at Hoopers Island Causeway, in Dorchester County. At the present time, most of this line cannot be reached from the roadway using our own bucket trucks. By taking time to move the lines closer to the roadway, we will be able to efficiently and effectively perform maintenance on this section of line. We will also be installing vertical line construction with short spans. This will eliminate anchors and guy wires which can break and rust due to the salt water. Removing these cross arms will ensure that large birds will be less inclined to build their nests on our equipment. This will improve reliability and bring better service to our members in Dorchester County. These kinds of projects are time consuming and costly. This particular project will take approximately two weeks and will cost an estimated quarter of a million dollars. These projects are long term investments for our members, reducing future repair time and expense. If projects like this were not addressed our membership could experience longer outages especially during harsh weather conditions.
