Chris Mendez, Victor Drew Jimenez, John Serna It was a complete team effort for the San Antonio Spurs, there defensive game plan was excellent, they rattle the Heat, offensive numbers were solid for the Spurs, passing was great as always, they showed tremendous confidence and magnificent believe in themselves. San Antonio was ready to play Miami and once again they proved that with a healthy team, that includes Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Kawhi Leonard, and the rest of that solid bench, they are going to be one of the favorites once again to make another title run. The San Antonio Spurs, made a huge statement last night, against the two-time defending champion Miami Heat. The Spurs set the tone from the start, jumping out to a huge lead and never looking back against the Heat. Superstar PG Tony Parker set the tone from the start for San Antonio, scoring 10 of his 17 points, dished out 3 of his 4 assists in the 1st quarter, helping the Spurs jump out take a double-digit lead. Parkers leadership was solid throughout the entire game, he gave the Spurs that great confidence booster from the start, that helped San Antonio deal with Miami the rest of the way offensively and defensively. Parker also had 2 steals and 5-6 from the free-throw line and showing 6-14 from the field. Future Star SF Kawhi Leonard, who was doing mostly everything for the Spurs defensively, disrupting Heat Superstar SF LeBron James and throwing his game off-balance, forcing turnovers, making it extremely difficult for James to get anything going offensively and affecting his game in many ways. Leonard held James to 19 points while only shooting 6-18 from the field. LeBron James had 5 total turnovers, and 4 of those turnovers were caused by Leonards defense. Leonards offensively game didnt come into play until the 2nd half. Leonard scored 9 of his 11 points in the 2nd half, 7 of those 11 points came in the 3rd quarter, making a 3-point bucket, knocking down two free-throws, and making a jumper. Leonard definitely made his impacted known, and he proved that he is ready for the bright lights of the big moments in big games. Leonard finished the game with 11 points, tied his career-high in steals with 5, and grabbed 5 rebounds as well. Another underrated player on the Spurs, is PF/C Boris Diaw, who in last years finals did a solid job on LeBron James as well, defensively wise. Diaw, is the type of player, that loves to do the little things, dishing a clutch pass, or getting key rebound and making a huge defensive play, he is unselfish player for San Antonio. Diaw has never be known for his offensive game, but during this season, he has done a wonderful job for the Spurs, knocking key baskets to make easier for the Spurs star players. Diaw had a great all-round game, scoring a season-high 16 points while shooting 5-5 from the field, 5 assists, 8 rebounds, 2-2 from 3-point land and 4-5 from the free-throw line. Diaw is the type of the player that doesnt care whether hell start or come off the bench, his impacted will definitely be known after the game. Even though the Heat got blowout, they still had one bright spot in the game, with PF/C Chris Bosh, whos jumper looked very sharp against San Antonio. Boshs was pretty solid, scoring 15 of his 24 points in the 1st half, along with 2 steals, 7 rebounds and 3-3 from the free-throw line. Duncan also grabbed 11 rebounds, 5-5 from the free-throw line, and making timely plays throughout the entire game. Duncan helped set the tone for the Spurs in the 1st quarter, scoring 6 of his 13 1st half points, as the Spurs took an early on Miami. Bosh battle Duncan in the 1st period as well, by scoring 8 of his 15 first half points. First, Duncan with a block shot on Heat star SG Dwyane Wade, then Bosh gets a pass from PG Mario Chalmers for the two-point jumper. Duncan dishes the great pass to Splitter for the wide-open layup, as the Spurs take a 37-22 lead into the 2nd quarter. Both Duncan and Bosh continue there solid starts in the 2nd period, as both players scored 7 points each, but the Spurs still have the lead going into halftime.
