Christensen takes key role in social policy, legal affairs RISING central Queensland MP George Christensen has scored a coveted parliamentary committee chair role as he prepares for the first week of the 44th Parliament in Canberra. Mr Christensen, who was recently elevated to the position of Nationals Whip, was appointed to chair the social policy and legal affairs committee on Monday. It will see him work with long-time Liberal frontbenchers Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews and Attorney-General George Brandis. Prime Minister Tony Abbott made the appointment on Monday as he dished out the top committee roles - a key position where rising politicians prove their worth before consideration for more senior positions. Mr Christensen said in a statement he was already in talks with Mr Andrews about a review of the child support agency and how to make the system fairer. One of the most common inquiries coming to my electorate office concern child support and the impact the current system has on all parties, including custodial parents, non-custodial parents, and even the partners of non-custodial parents, he said. He said the key north Queensland issue of insurance would be a major focus and his conservative Queensland colleagues, following a recent inquiry by the committee into the industrys role during natural disasters.
