My Presidential Views on the Separation of Church and State: It - TopicsExpress

My Presidential Views on the Separation of Church and State: It amazes me sometimes how religion come up so much in politics. I don’t really see if there is supposed to be a separation of church and state, why it is so important that if you are running for office that you must have a strong religious back ground. Religion is great and important don’t get me wrong, but issues that are brought up don’t necessarily follow strict religious guidelines. To me it seems that if you are let say a Catholic, that you would want a President who has the same religious beliefs as you. But here’s the question, which religion is the best? Which religion is correct? In saying that you wouldn’t vote for a Presidential Candidate because he doesn’t have the same beliefs, wouldn’t that make you a bit selfish? Doesn’t your religion look down upon selfishness? Doesn’t religion want what is best for everyone? Doesn’t every religion want harmony with everyone? Peace, love and generosity? How can there be harmony if you are more worried about a religious decision that should be left for your religions leader? I believe that there is always room for negotiation, but when it comes to matters of state, religion cannot be a factor. What is right for everyone is the only factor. You have the right to your own religion, but you do not have the right to tell someone else’s religion that they are wrong and the only decision that should matter is your own beliefs. I will tell you this right now. I believe in everything and nothing at all. I do not go to church because I don’t believe I need to. God or Gods do not reside in a single holy place only. The God that you pray to is like a Wifi Hot Spot and all we have to do is turn on the power to our cell phones when we need him. If I need spiritual guidance then by all means I know where to find a priest or a Rabbi or any such leader when I need them. Religion is personal. It is unique to the individual what you get out of it. No one can tell you how religion should affect you or what you should do with it. So when it is time to decide on a bill that affects so many people of all different religions, well then, religion is going to have to take a back seat.
