Christina Board member and blogger John Young really has it right when he says Gov. Jack Markell just doesnt get it when he claims that standardized assessments are a key component in ensuring children with special needs are getting the services they need. This is just a silly statement. Most of the students I served last year were so far removed from what the state test was asking that to teach them such material would have been a disservice. This is why we have what are called MODIFICATIONS. The fact that Gov. Markell continues to bow down to the BS the USDOE is dishing out just shows how tone-deaf he is on the issue of education. Weve got some great legislators going above and beyond on the topic of education, including Rep. Kim Casey Williams, Sen. Nicole Saville Poore, Sen. Bryan Townsend, and many many others. Maybe The News Journal should have just interviewed them.
