A U.S. CITIZEN EFM DOES NOT HAVE TO BE RESIDING IN COUNTRY TO BE CONSIDERED, BUT THE SPONSORING OFFICER UNDER COM AUTHORITY DOES HAVE TO BE OFFICIALLY ASSIGNED TO POST The U.S. Embassy in Abuja is seeking to employ suitable and qualified candidate for the Communications Specialist position in the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Nigeria office in Abuja. BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION: The Communication Specialist will report to the CDC Nigeria Deputy Director and will be responsible for the creation and delivery of information to both the internal and external population by advising and assisting with written and oral communications, independently identifying plans, implementing and evaluating communication programs. The incumbent researches, plans, writes, produces, and distributes materials about CDC Nigeria and its relevant policies announcements, activities, and collaborators. The incumbent has skills and sensitivity to design, implement and evaluate communication activities to publicize CDC Nigeria programs, activities goals, and mission and the professional standing to establish and maintain contacts in the media, governmental and non-governmental, academic, and commercial sectors. Advises CDC Nigeria staff and relevant colleagues on the needs and plans for written documentation, executes and evaluates the exchange of informational programs for journalists and other in the media. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: NOTE: All applicants MUST address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each criterion or the application will not be considered. 1. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English or related liberal arts degree is required. 2. Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in communications media as a journalist or in radio broadcasting, experience writing and editing health or scientific materials and adapting technical material for general audience, developing messages, writing health communications materials, and adapting scientific and technical information for a variety of audiences are required. 3. Level IV (fluency) Speaking/reading/writing in English is required. 4. Incumbent must have good working knowledge of current telecommunications theory, including planning, management, advanced knowledge of principles and processes for providing effective messaging services. 5. The incumbent must possess thorough knowledge of the principles of public health programs, organizational and operational concepts and practices applied by public, private, or non-profit agencies and organizations engaged in health communication. 6. Must possess excellent computer skills with experience/training for word processing and spreadsheets. SELECTION PROCESS: - When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. - Veterans are given preference.
